Automated SMS Check-In Consent
Purpose
This page documents the process used to obtain patient consent for participation in Ruby Health's automated SMS check-in program obtained following hospital discharge. The program is designed to support Ruby Health patients by sending automated text messages utilizing artificial intelligence that review a patient's recovery and identify potential concerns that may require clinical follow-up.
Consent Process
Patients are contacted by a clinical staff member during an initial outbound call following hospital discharge. During this call, the staff member obtains the patient's verbal consent to receive automated SMS check-in messages.
The patient's verbal consent is documented in their medical record.
Staff Consent Script
The following script is read verbatim by the clinical staff member and may not be modified:
"As part of your care, we would like to send you automated text messages from Ruby Health to see how you're doing. These messages use technology to review and respond to your responses, and a member of our clinical team is always available if you need to speak with someone directly by calling this number. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. You can reply STOP at any time to opt out."
Documentation Requirements
- Verbal consent must be obtained prior to enrolling the patient in the automated SMS check-in program.
- Verbal consent must be documented in the patient's medical record.
